Herzog flies over Turkey and Erdogan goes into shock: "This cannot be called brotherhood or friendship"

Tensions between Turkey and Azerbaijan have escalated: Herzog's flight over Turkey, a dispute over the ban on hijabs in Azerbaijani schools, and an indictment against a Turkish journalist. A Turkish official said that Azerbaijan did not notify about Herzog's presence on the plane.

Tensions between Turkey and Azerbaijan have escalated following the flight of Israeli President Isaac Herzog over Turkish airspace on his way to Baku. According to a report by Middle East Eye, a Turkish official said that Azerbaijan did not inform Ankara that Herzog was on the plane, and that Turkey cannot receive the passenger list of every aircraft passing through its airspace. The dispute is not limited to the flight: since the end of September, a protest has been taking place in Azerbaijan against the ban on hijabs in schools, during which at least 37 protesters have been arrested. In addition, the Azerbaijani prosecution has filed an indictment against Turkish journalist Celal Çiftçi on charges of calling for the overthrow of the government by force, and an Azerbaijani court has issued an arrest warrant against him.
