Heavy concern in Uman: power outages return amid bombings

The regional electricity company in Uman announced the resumption of scheduled power outages starting October 1, 2026, following heavy Russian attacks on energy infrastructure in Ukraine. The city's rabbi warns against using dangerous gas heaters after a poisoning tragedy last year. The Breslov Union expresses concern over the costs of operating generators at the tomb of Rabbi Nachman.

The electricity company in the Cherkasy region of Ukraine announced the resumption of scheduled power outages in Uman starting October 1, 2026, after about six months of regular supply. The decision was made following a wave of heavy Russian bombings on energy facilities and critical infrastructure. The schedules have been set until April 1, 2027, and the outages will only be activated in case of a risk of grid collapse or a dramatic shortage in generation. The mayor of Uman, Rabbi Yaakov Shiloh, issued a serious warning against using indoor gas heaters and illegal heating devices, in light of a gas poisoning tragedy last year in which a young man lost his life. The Breslov Union expresses concern about the economic consequences of the resumption of outages ahead of winter. The organization's chairman, Rabbi Natan Ben Nun, explained that the community is committed to providing continuous heating and lighting for thousands of worshippers at the tomb, which requires switching to giant generators with high fuel and maintenance costs. Rabbi Shiloh called on benefactors to help finance the expenses.
