"He brought destruction": 6 years in prison sentenced for driver who killed mother and daughter - prosecution appealed
The State Prosecutor's Office has appealed to the Supreme Court against the leniency of the sentence of Tarek Kerd, who was convicted of causing a fatal car accident in which Tzipi Rimal and her three-week-old daughter Noam were killed. Kerd, a new driver, drove at a speed of about 145 km/h, lost control and collided with vehicles stopped at a red light. The Jerusalem District Court sentenced him to only six years in prison.
The State Prosecutor's Office has filed an appeal with the Supreme Court against the sentence of Tarek Kerd, who was convicted of causing a fatal car accident on Highway 443. Kerd, a new driver who had purchased a car just days before the accident, went on a "test drive" and accelerated the vehicle to a speed of about 140 to 145 km/h, while according to the testimony of a traffic investigator the speed was 180 km/h. He lost control and collided with vehicles stopped at a red light. The accident killed Tzipi Rimal and her three-week-old daughter Noam. The father of the family, Efrayim Rimal, was seriously injured and underwent numerous surgeries, and his son Itai was critically injured. Kerd was convicted of two counts of manslaughter, aggravated assault and additional offenses. The Jerusalem District Court sentenced him to six years in actual imprisonment and 15 years of license suspension. In the appeal, the prosecution argues that the recklessness with which Kerd acted is at the highest level, and that the sentence does not reflect the full severity of the consequences of his actions. The victims' families support the appeal and describe the act as "going out to actual murder."
