Haymanot family asked to set up tent near PM's office - municipality refused

The Jerusalem municipality refused the request of the Haymanot Kasau family to set up a protest tent near the Prime Minister's office. The Association for Civil Rights filed a petition on their behalf with the Administrative Court, and the family demands an urgent hearing while clarifying that the struggle for Haymanot's release will continue.

The Jerusalem municipality refused the request of the Haymanot Kasau family to set up a protest tent near the Prime Minister's office. The family, with the help of activists, approached the municipality back in May, but their request was rejected on the grounds that protest tents constitute a public nuisance. The Association for Civil Rights filed a petition on behalf of Tesfai and Benchi Kasau with the Jerusalem Administrative Court on September 17, 2026. This morning, the association submitted a response on behalf of the petitioners, after the municipality requested to strike the petition. Meanwhile, the family was required to dismantle the sukkah that was erected as part of the struggle after the Sukkot holiday. Tesfai Kasau expressed sadness and disappointment, arguing that the priorities of the capital city do not include Haymanot. He called for transferring the investigation to the Shin Bet's responsibility, and said the family will continue the struggle as law-abiding citizens.
