Guarantees of hundreds of millions and independent electricity generation: The Electricity Authority's proposal for server farms
The Electricity Authority published its hearing document on server farm policy, including limiting the largest farm to 200 megawatts, a guarantee of up to 400 million shekels for developers, and the option for independent electricity generation from renewable energies without priority in grid connection.
The Electricity Authority published its full hearing document on server farm policy, including significant new restrictions. The largest farm will be limited to a capacity of 200 megawatts only, and the total of all server farms until 2035 will be capped at 1,000 megawatts plus an additional 300 megawatts as a reserve. Developers will be required to deposit a guarantee of half a million shekels per megawatt (up to 100 million shekels) already at the application stage, which will increase to 2 million shekels per megawatt (up to 400 million shekels) upon receiving approvals. The policy allows independent electricity generation from renewable energies and storage, but does not grant priority in the queue for grid connection. The decision was made following a wave of applications totaling 27 gigawatts, three times Israel's electricity generation capacity. The hearing is open for public comments until November 17, and the final decision is expected in the next government.
