Google launches free AI service: there's an unexpected nuance
Google has introduced a free application, Google AI Edge Foresight, for macOS that records, transcribes, and analyzes work meetings locally, without transferring data to the cloud. The service runs on Apple Silicon processors and is primarily oriented toward the English language, creating challenges for users in Israel who work in Hebrew.
Google has introduced a free application, Google AI Edge Foresight, designed for recording, transcribing, and analyzing work meetings. The key feature is that data processing is performed locally on the user's computer, without sending recordings or documents to external servers. The application is only available for macOS with Apple Silicon processors (M1 and newer) and does not support Intel Macs. The underlying technology uses local AI models from the Gemma family, including EmbeddingGemma 2 (740 million parameters) and Gemma 4 (2, 4, and 12 billion parameters). The application can work with documents in PDF, Office, Google Docs, Markdown, and text file formats, and can also connect to a calendar. It supports video conferencing via Google Meet, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams. However, the real-time automatic transcription function is primarily oriented toward the English language, and users in Israel report problems with Hebrew recognition. The application takes up between 700 MB and 7 GB of disk space and does not allow uploading pre-recorded audio files.
