Gaza: Ministry of Development Warns of Consequences of Tents Flooding and Demands Immediate Entry of Caravans

The Ministry of Social Development in Gaza warned of the repercussions of thousands of displaced persons' tents flooding due to heavy rains, demanding the immediate entry of caravans as an emergency solution, and called on international bodies and UN institutions to start infrastructure projects to end the shelter crisis.

The Ministry of Social Development in Gaza warned of unprecedented catastrophic repercussions facing the people of the Strip, following the flooding of thousands of tents for the displaced and temporary shelter centers, especially orphans and families who have lost their breadwinner, putting the lives of thousands of families and children under direct threat due to cold and lack of basic life necessities. In a statement issued Sunday evening, the ministry called on all international bodies and UN institutions to immediately begin implementing infrastructure projects, and urgently allow the entry of all necessary equipment and materials to repair networks and field rehabilitation to reduce the recurring flooding tragedies. It stressed the need to expedite the entry of mobile homes (caravans) as an emergency solution to protect the displaced and those who lost their homes, and called for intensifying international pressure in this direction to end the era of cloth tents that are no longer suitable for facing weather fluctuations and atmospheric depressions. The ministry affirmed that the shelter crisis has sharply doubled after the occupation expanded its control over the Strip's lands by moving the "Yellow Line," resulting in a narrowing of available displacement areas, which increased tent overcrowding and exacerbated the suffering of families and orphans in completely unprepared areas. The ministry called on local, Arab, and international media to put the issue of tent flooding and the escalating shelter crisis at the top of journalistic coverage priorities.
