For the first time: Samsung unveils a smart tag that also works with Apple devices
Samsung has announced the Galaxy SmartTag3, a smart tracking tag that for the first time also supports Apple devices. The new tag features a battery life of up to 790 days, Bluetooth 6.0 standard with a tracking range of up to 60 meters, and a design reduced by 35%. This move positions it as a direct competitor to Apple's AirTag.
Samsung has announced the Galaxy SmartTag3, a third-generation smart tracking tag, nearly three years after the previous generation. For the first time in the series, the tag supports basic use and location sharing on Apple devices and the iOS operating system, via the SmartThings Find network. This strategic move positions the tag as a direct competitor to Apple's AirTag. The tag has undergone a significant diet: its volume is reduced by 35% and its weight by 33%. It features a rounded design with an aluminum button and IP67 water and dust resistance. A CR2032 battery provides up to 550 days of normal use and up to 790 days in power-saving mode. The standout technological upgrade is Bluetooth 6.0 with Channel Sounding technology, which triples the compass view range and enables precise direction and distance guidance up to 60 meters. An Ultra-Wideband mechanism provides centimeter-level accurate guidance. The tag includes features like Place Notification for alerts when leaving a defined area, suspicious motion detection, location history, and an NFC-based lost mode. The aluminum button also serves as a remote control for the smart home via connection to SmartThings. The device relies on the Galaxy Find network, which includes over 900 million active devices. Samsung announced it will shut down the legacy Tracker service at the end of October and consolidate tracking capabilities in the Samsung Find app. The price in the US is expected to be around $30 per unit.
