Swedish investment company Pophouse Entertainment has acquired 50% of the music catalog rights of Australian singer-songwriter Sia for $180 million. The deal includes copyright and master rights, with the payment distribution influenced by Sia's divorce proceedings from Dan Bernand. Sia will receive $165 million directly for pre-marriage works, while $15 million will be placed in escrow.
Swedish investment company Pophouse Entertainment announced Thursday the acquisition of 50% of the music catalog rights of Australian singer-songwriter Sia. The deal, valued at $180 million, includes copyright and master rights to her recordings. According to a report on TMZ, the payment distribution was influenced by the artist's divorce proceedings from Dan Bernand. Legal documents revealed that Sia will directly receive $165 million for works written before her marriage, including hits like 'Chandelier' and 'Titanium'. An additional $15 million, relating to songs written during the marriage period, will be deposited in an escrow account pending resolution between the parties. Pophouse, co-founded by Björn Ulvaeus of ABBA, stated the deal aims to provide Sia with strategic support and resources for developing new creative ventures. The investment was made through the company's investment fund (Pophouse Fund I), which raised approximately €1.2 billion by March 2025. Sia, active in the music industry since the 1990s, gained broad international recognition in the early 2000s. Throughout her career, she has been nominated for nine Grammy Awards and has written songs for prominent artists including Rihanna and Beyoncé. With this acquisition, Sia joins a list of artists whose rights are partially managed by Pophouse, including Tina Turner, Cyndi Lauper, and the bands Kiss and Iron Maiden. The company also owns other cultural assets, including the ABBA Museum and the production of the 'ABBA Voyage' show.
