Following an exposé by Channel 14, the IDF is clarifying to commanders that in operational activity, troops may move without the "safety catch" device and even with a cocked weapon, subject to a situational assessment. The clarification came after an investigation of the terror attack at Yehuda Junction revealed that two soldiers had their weapons jammed due to the device, and one of them fell after managing to clear the malfunction. The Safety Division and the Operations Brigade will draft a joint document to regulate the issue, shifting the decision from a blanket directive to the discretion of the commander in the field. In the attack, which occurred about two weeks ago, Staff Sergeant Ron Yonatan Reutman and Sergeant Yuval Shai Soylem were killed, and three additional soldiers were wounded.
