First publication: Shin Bet will begin securing Eisenkot
Security establishment sources told Maariv that the Shin Bet is holding final discussions on the security plan for MK Gadi Eisenkot, and it is estimated that in the coming days the VIP protection unit will assume full responsibility. The decision was made following the advisory committee's recommendation and the threat assessment against him, against the backdrop of a previous dispute with the Shin Bet chief who rejected the request due to a lack of intelligence information.
Security establishment sources told Maariv that in recent days the Shin Bet has been holding final discussions on the security plan for MK Gadi Eisenkot. It is estimated that in the coming days the Shin Bet's VIP protection unit will assume full responsibility for his security. The decision was made following the advisory committee's recommendation and in light of the threat assessment facing Eisenkot. This followed a dispute: Shin Bet chief Ronen Zini initially rejected the request to secure Eisenkot, partly because the service had no intelligence information or concrete warning of an intention to harm him. The police, however, assessed that the threat level was high and recommended assigning him armed security. The dispute is expected to reach the ministers today.
