First publication: IDF and Defense Ministry to advance decision on reservist compensation

The IDF and the Defense Ministry are advancing a government decision to compensate reservists affected by the split of service between 2026 and 2027. Concurrently, legislation will be promoted in the Knesset. The soldiers' wives demand an immediate solution.

The IDF and the Defense Ministry are formulating a government decision to regulate the rights and benefits of reservists, following a Walla! report on soldiers who may lose entitlements due to the split of reserve service between the years 2026 and 2027. In parallel, legislation is being advanced in the Knesset. At the center of the affair are soldiers of Battalion 363, who received orders for 99 days of reserve duty starting November 22, 2026, with 40 days attributed to 2026 and 59 to 2027. This division could affect eligibility for benefits such as reimbursements for mental health treatments, birth grants, student grants, and vacation vouchers. The soldiers' wives demand an immediate solution. The IDF clarified that eligibility will not be harmed due to the split between years, and that a cross-year calculation framework will be formulated. However, the government decision has not yet been approved.
