"FIFA" suspends Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan and Ziko over Argentina match in 2026 World Cup

The Egyptian Football Association announced it received a notification from FIFA suspending Egypt national team coach Hossam Hassan and his manager Ibrahim Hassan for three matches each, and player Ziko for five matches, following their statements after Egypt's 2-3 loss to Argentina in the 2026 World Cup. The Egyptian Association filed an urgent appeal against the decision.

The Egyptian Football Association announced on Monday that it received a notification from the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) imposing sanctions on Egypt national team coach Hossam Hassan, team manager Ibrahim Hassan, and player Mustafa Abdel Raouf (Ziko), following the events that occurred after the Egypt-Argentina match in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup. FIFA's Disciplinary Committee decided to suspend the Hassan brothers for three matches each, and Ziko for five matches. The Egyptian Association confirmed that it filed an urgent appeal to the Disciplinary Committee, requesting the detailed reasons and justifications for the decisions, in preparation for studying them, assessing the legal situation, and taking appeal measures. FIFA began disciplinary proceedings against the trio last August, following their statements after the Egyptian national team's 2-3 loss to Argentina, in which they accused the match referee of deliberately causing the team's defeat. Under the sanctions, Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan will miss the team's next three matches against Malawi and Angola in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, while Ziko will miss the remaining four matches in the qualifiers.
