The FBI arrested a 51-year-old man from Los Angeles, Steven Carlos Duance, on suspicion of planning an attack on a Chabad preschool in the Los Feliz neighborhood using Molotov cocktails. Duance was arrested on October 2, and details of the case were first revealed yesterday (Saturday) in the New York Post. According to the criminal complaint, Duance posted threats against Jews and synagogues on social media, specifically referencing the JEMS preschool. In one post, he wrote that this is 'the end of Los Feliz as you know it' and expressed sympathy for the Houthis. In additional posts, he wrote that not enough synagogues have been burned. During an FBI raid on his home, components for making a Molotov cocktail were found. His mother, Maria Duance, said she does not believe her son planned an attack against Jewish children, describing him as a sweet and kind person who deteriorated after losing his job and going through a divorce. Duance remains in custody at the federal facility in downtown Los Angeles.
