Data: Growing influence of right-wing and settlement institutions in the Israeli army
Official data from the Israeli army reveals a sharp increase in its use of institutions linked to the right wing and settlements to provide educational activities for soldiers, alongside a decline in activities by democracy and human rights institutions. The largest increase was recorded for the 'Israel from Within' institute, which jumped from one activity in 2023 to 742 activities in 2025.
Official data from the Israeli army, submitted last August in response to a request from the 'Ad Kan' organization under the Freedom of Information Law, reveals widespread changes in the distribution of 'educational activities' among about 110 external institutions during the years 2021-2025. The data shows an expansion in the presence of institutions linked to the right wing and settlements, compared to a notable decline in the use of institutions specializing in democracy, tolerance, and human rights. The largest increase was recorded in the activities of the 'Israel from Within' (Yisrael Mifnim) institute, operating within the tourism and guidance company 'Israel-2GO', headed by a former activist in the 'Religious Zionism' party. In 2022, the army did not request any activity from the institute, then used it for only one activity in 2023, before the number jumped to 303 activities in 2024, reaching 742 activities in 2025, more than double the number recorded the previous year. The company provides educational tours and courses across the country dealing with Zionism, Jewish identity, and the history of settlement in the occupied West Bank. These data raise questions about the political orientations governing the 'military education' system, despite the army's affirmation of its commitment to an official non-partisan character in its educational and instructional activities.
