The plasmapheresis machine itself recorded that the first alarm sounded just 11 minutes after connection, but an ambulance was called only after more than two hours. Mazonakis was one of the most popular performers of Greek laiko music, released numerous hits, and was a judge on the show "The Voice." His death caused widespread resonance in Greece, Cyprus, and among the Greek diaspora worldwide. Greece's Minister of Health stated that the clinic was not authorized to perform plasmapheresis, as it was registered as a regular procedure room.
