An unusual incident was recorded today (Wednesday) during the official visit of Colombia's foreign minister, Omar Bula Escobar, to the Yad Vashem museum in Jerusalem. A security guard from Shin Bet Unit 730, tasked with protecting public figures, confronted a tourist, pushed him and pinned him to the floor. The incident occurred as the guards worked to open a secure corridor for the foreign minister and asked visitors and tourists to clear the way. One of the tourists was asked to step aside, but a confrontation developed with the guard, involving pushes and ultimately an assault and pinning to the floor. Police officers called to the scene detained the tourist and transferred him for questioning at the police station. In his interrogation the tourist claimed he did not understand what the incident was about. The minister is in Israel as part of a diplomatic visit, during which Colombia's embassy in Jerusalem was inaugurated following the renewal of relations between the countries after three years. No response was received from the Shin Bet or Yad Vashem spokespersons.
