Extra 5 ml in shot glasses: pub demands over 2.5 million shekels from IKEA

The 'Ha-Pitria' pub from Kibbutz Dan has filed a class action lawsuit against IKEA over FIGURERA shot glasses, whose actual volume is 20% higher than stated. The establishment claims it has been pouring customers more alcohol than accounted for in pricing for years, estimating damages to food service businesses at over 2.5 million shekels.

The 'Ha-Pitria' pub from Kibbutz Dan in the Hula Valley has filed a motion with the Central District Court to approve a class action lawsuit against IKEA. The defendants are 'Livne Tzfoni', the importer of IKEA products in Israel, and the Swedish IKEA of Sweden AB. At the center of the dispute are FIGURERA shot glasses, labeled as having a volume of 2.5 centiliters (25 milliliters). The pub claims their actual capacity is 30 milliliters, 20% more than stated. The establishment purchased 1,728 such glasses between 2021 and 2026. Suspicions arose after a customer pointed out the discrepancy to the owner. Checks conducted, according to the plaintiff, confirmed that the glass holds 30 milliliters. The pub argues that restaurants and bars set prices for alcohol portions based on a volume of 25 milliliters, while customers received 20% more drink. The plaintiff asks the court to order the defendants to pay compensation equivalent to an additional 20% of the cost of all alcohol portions served in these glasses. The total estimated damages exceed 2.5 million shekels. IKEA Israel stated they have not yet received the lawsuit and will review the claims after receiving the documents.
