Even with a discount of thousands of shekels, this car faces tough competition

The Kia Sportage Plug-in Hybrid arrives in Israel three years late, priced at NIS 214,000 after a discount. It offers refined driving, a practical cabin, and Korean quality, but enters a segment where 98% of sales belong to cheaper, better-equipped Chinese models.

The Kia Sportage Plug-in Hybrid has arrived in Israel three years after its global launch, priced at NIS 214,000 after an introductory discount. The vehicle offers refined driving, a spacious and practical cabin, impressive Korean build quality, and generous equipment including leather upholstery, a dual-panel electric sunroof, and heated and ventilated seats. The electric range is up to 68 km, but in practice the battery depletes after 45-55 km. Performance is brisk with 288 hp, and ride comfort is good except for jolts over continuous urban bumps. The main issue: the model joins a segment late where 98% of sales belong to Chinese models, which are generally larger, better equipped, cheaper, and offer a longer electric range. The main competitors are the BYD Seal U DM-i (NIS 215,000, 125 km electric range) and the Omoda 7 (NIS 180,000-200,000).
