Eshkol Council Erases Memorial Like Thieves in the Night
The mother of Libi Cohen-Maguri, who was murdered on October 7, discovered that the outline of her daughter's body she had drawn at the site was erased on the instructions of the head of the Eshkol Regional Council, following complaints from residents. Sheli Mashal-Yogev is furious: "You can't erase such a disaster."
Sheli Mashal-Yogev, the mother of Libi Cohen-Maguri who was murdered on October 7, discovered that the outline of her daughter's body, which she had drawn on the asphalt at the side of Route 232 near Kibbutz Re'im, was painted over. The Eshkol Regional Council confirmed that the marking was removed on the instructions of the council head, Michal Uziyahu, following complaints from residents and bereaved families, and without coordination with the family. Mashal-Yogev is furious at the insensitivity and compares the erasure to erasing Auschwitz. The council responded that the marking was removed due to the emotional distress of residents and disruption to travelers, and that the memorial site remains in place. Mashal-Yogev denies the claim of a nearby bus stop and accuses the council of lying.
