Erev Yom Kippur: Tens of thousands expected to arrive for the last Selichot ceremony at the Western Wall

Tens of thousands are expected to arrive this evening at the Western Wall plaza for the main and final Selichot ceremony of the year, on the eve of Yom Kippur. The Western Wall Heritage Foundation is preparing for a record crowd, after weeks in which hundreds of thousands of worshippers have arrived. The event will be projected onto the walls of the Old City and at the Jaffa Gate. Simultaneously, a Selichot event will take place at Tel Baruch Beach in Tel Aviv, following agreements with the municipality regarding the partition.

Tens of thousands are expected to arrive this evening (Saturday night, September 19) at the Western Wall plaza in Jerusalem for the main and final Selichot ceremony of the year, on the eve of Yom Kippur. The Western Wall Heritage Foundation is preparing to accommodate an especially large crowd, after weeks in which hundreds of thousands of worshippers have attended the Selichot ceremonies in Jerusalem. This year, 19 main ceremonies have been held at the Western Wall plaza, with tonight's event concluding the Selichot events of the year 5787. The crowd size is expected to exceed that of the large ceremony held last Thursday night, in which about one hundred thousand people participated. Thousands more joined via a live broadcast from Hostages Square in Tel Aviv. Due to the crowds, the ceremony will be screened on screens in the Jaffa Gate area and on the walls of the Old City. The organizers called on the public to arrive early and follow police instructions. Simultaneously, a Selichot event will take place tonight at Tel Baruch Beach in Tel Aviv, with the participation of Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu and the Chief Rabbi of Tel Aviv, with separation between men and women. The event in Tel Aviv will take place after a dispute over placing a partition in the public space, which reached agreements that were given the force of a court ruling in the District Court.
