Emergency plan to evacuate buildings at risk of collapse in Gaza

The Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip announced the launch of an urgent emergency plan to remove and evacuate about 255 cracked and dilapidated buildings. The plan comes in cooperation between the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, government ministries and institutions, and with the participation of international and UN agencies operating in the Strip. The plan aims to protect the lives of citizens and displaced persons residing in or near these buildings, and to end the danger posed by buildings at risk of collapse. Procedures include issuing official notices to owners of dangerous buildings requiring immediate evacuation, placing warning signs, and working to provide temporary shelter for affected families. The plan is being implemented in coordination between the Ministries of Works, Social Development, and Local Government, the Civil Defense, and the Palestinian Police. The plan faces obstacles including some families refusing to evacuate dangerous buildings, a severe shortage of funding, a scarcity of heavy machinery and equipment, and a crisis in providing safe land for the transfer and shelter of displaced persons. The Egyptian committee has announced its readiness to provide the necessary transportation for the evacuation of displaced persons.
