Eisenkot still not protected by Shin Bet, Golan petitions High Court: Zini and the government are abandoning lives

The Democrats party petitioned the High Court of Justice this morning (Tuesday) demanding that Shin Bet chief David Zini and the government provide security for party chairman Yair Golan. Yashar party chairman Gadi Eisenkot also remains without security from the Shin Bet's VIP protection unit. The petition claims that the police define the threat level against Golan as high, and that he is exposed to dozens of concrete, explicit, and chilling death threats. Attached to the petition is a document detailing threats, including calls for murder, hanging, and blinding. The petition states that Golan's security is at the core of the service's mission, and that a candidate who cannot appear in public without risking his life is limited in managing the election campaign. Justice Minister Yariv Levin, who heads the ministerial committee for Shin Bet affairs, decided nearly two weeks ago to authorize the Shin Bet to determine the required response itself, but no decision has been made since. Levin was the only minister who attended the discussion.
