The meeting took place on Sunday, September 27, 2026, during Netanyahu's visit to the Emirates, where he also met with UAE President bin Zayed. According to the report, flight tracking to Al-Bateen Airport identified a plane arriving from Benghazi, used by Haftar, which landed twenty minutes after Netanyahu's landing. Mohammed Bouyseer, a former political advisor to Khalifa Haftar (Saddam's father), claimed that the meeting was intended to secure political support for Saddam Haftar's attempt to be elected president of Libya. It was also reported that Haftar is also working with Ballard Partners, an American consulting firm, and is expected to meet in Washington with US Vice President JD Vance, following a previous meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Sources noted that Haftar seeks to establish his status as a leader, using drones to blow up oil infrastructure in western Libya.
