The Doha Historical Dictionary of Arabic announced the launch of its new official app for smartphones on the App Store and Google Play, aiming to facilitate access to the dictionary's material for all categories of users, including researchers and writers across the Arab world and beyond. The new version of the app reflects the latest updates to the dictionary's electronic portal, which were introduced in conjunction with the "Completion" ceremony of the Doha Historical Dictionary last year. The app allows users to search through approximately 300,000 lexical entries, 10,000 roots, and 10,000 sources in the bibliography, in addition to searching within the contexts of the linguistic corpus, which contains about one billion words. Users also benefit from all the developments and services introduced to the portal over the past year, most notably the text-to-speech service that became available on the portal last June. The app also allows users to create their own accounts and log in, enabling personalized services such as saving searches and results, sending comments and corrections on lexical materials to the scientific team, participating in the dictionary by suggesting words, meanings, or citations, as well as browsing the "Word of the Day" and accessing the dictionary's accounts on social media platforms.
