In a community archaeological excavation in Gush Etzion, a large ritual bath (mikveh) from the Second Temple period was uncovered, featuring a staircase divided by a partition and two separate entrances. It is estimated to have served pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem.
As part of a community archaeological excavation by the Archaeology Unit of the Civil Administration, in collaboration with youth from Gush Etzion, a large ritual bath from the Second Temple period was uncovered along the Patriarchs' Way. The mikveh includes a staircase divided into two by a built partition and two separate entrances. It is estimated that the mikveh served pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem, as it is located outside the boundaries of the ancient settlement. The excavation is taking place as part of the "Derech Eretz Heritage" project, shedding light on the movement of pilgrims and the importance of the ancient road connecting Hebron to Jerusalem.
