Two prominent Democratic members of the US Congress, Representatives Jamie Raskin and Robert Garcia, demanded that President Donald Trump preserve records of all his official conversations with AI-powered chatbots. The demand came in a letter sent to Trump on Wednesday, obtained by Politico before its details were announced on Thursday, according to AFP. The lawmakers argued that the questions posed by the president and his White House aides to AI chatbots, along with the responses provided by these programs, constitute presidential records that must be preserved under US federal law. They also called on the administration to hold a closed briefing by November 11, 2026, to clarify the nature of Trump's use of these technologies in performing his official duties, the procedures in place to protect sensitive information, and the extent to which the companies developing the programs can access government conversations. The letter follows media reports that Trump spent hours using the Grok program during a meeting with Elon Musk in the Oval Office in December 2025. According to those reports, Trump asked the program questions about the situation in Venezuela, including how the population might react to the possible arrest of US forces.
