Deepfake at its peak. How can we defend against it?

A wave of deepfake propaganda has reached a new peak with 38 verified publications in a single day. The United Torah Judaism party has entered the deepfake game for the first time, and the Haredi Public party has released a video simulating a fictional news broadcast. The Central Elections Committee has published a guide on defending against false information.

The wave of deepfake propaganda has reached a new peak in the past week, with 38 verified deepfake publications in a single day, according to data on the use of videos labeled as "deep fakes." The data shows that as election day approaches, propaganda teams are operating forgery and visual engineering systems at full force. This week saw the official entry of the United Torah Judaism party into the deepfake game with its first such video, as well as the publication by the Haredi Public party of a video simulating a fictional "true broadcast" of election sample results on Channel 14. The Central Elections Committee has published a guide for dealing with false information, including tools for identifying warning signs and verifying information before sharing. The research is funded by the President Meir Shamgar Center for Digital Law and Innovation and the Edmond J. Safra Center for Ethics at Tel Aviv University.
