Chairman of United Torah Judaism: "They treat Haredim like the Islamic Jihad, that's how you will dismantle the state"

Chairman of United Torah Judaism, MK Yaakov Asher, attacked the treatment of the Haredi public at the "People of the State" conference of ynet and Yedioth Ahronoth, comparing it to the treatment of the Islamic Jihad. Asher said that calling two million people "parasites" will dismantle the state and lose the Jewish majority. He criticized Bezalel Smotrich, Naftali Bennett, and the media which he says contains Arab draft evasion but not Haredi.

Against the backdrop of the crisis over the draft exemption and Haredi protests, Chairman of United Torah Judaism MK Yaakov Asher appeared at the "People of the State" conference of ynet and Yedioth Ahronoth and sharply attacked the treatment of the Haredi public. Asher compared the treatment of Haredim to the treatment of the Islamic Jihad, and said that calling two million people "parasites" will dismantle the state and lose the Jewish majority. He criticized the media which he says contains the draft evasion of the Arab public but not of the Haredim, and noted that he did not hear Yair Golan confronting Arabs about non-enlistment. Asher attacked Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who he said crossed a red line when he spoke about the great sages of Israel, and added that Smotrich is under pressure because of the electoral threshold. He also criticized Naftali Bennett, who said he underwent a complete evolution on the issue. Asher was appointed last month as chairman of Degel HaTorah instead of Moshe Gafni, a move that shook the party.
