Within two weeks, three IDF soldiers fell in safety incidents in the northern Gaza Strip and the Litani River area in Lebanon. The latest incident ended with the fall of Captain Eliav Chaim Tzefalmos in a Humvee rollover in southern Lebanon. Two weeks earlier, soldiers of Battalion 7007 of Brigade 16, Reserve Sergeant Major Nadav Kley and Reserve Sergeant Major Ofek Mu'alem, fell in the northern Gaza Strip after a drone they were flying returned to the outpost where they were stationed and exploded. The defense establishment warns: the prolonged stay on defensive lines invites enemy threats and lowers the vigilance of the forces. The IDF is in a status of offensive defense in all sectors, a format unlike continuous offensive maneuver, but conducted in an almost fixed daily routine. The military command understands that a prolonged security routine on the defensive line, without offensive initiative, could lead to harm to forces in a variety of scenarios - from road accidents to erosion in the security of the yellow lines. According to operational plans, the IDF is expected to gradually reduce the scope of its forces in the security zones and move to control of the area through a reduced force structure.
