Central Elections Committee: The Ministry of National Security must remove photos of Minister Ben Gvir

The chairman of the Central Elections Committee, Judge Noam Solberg, ruled that the Ministry of National Security must remove photos of Minister Itamar Ben Gvir from reports on the ministry's activities, to prevent them from serving as election propaganda. The ruling states there is no blanket ban on publishing his name and image, but he must not be made the focus of the event.

The chairman of the Central Elections Committee, Judge Noam Solberg, ruled today (Sunday) that the Ministry of National Security must remove certain photos of Minister Itamar Ben Gvir from reports on the ministry's activities, to prevent them from serving as election propaganda. The ruling was issued in response to a petition filed by attorney and accountant Yaron Meiri, who argued that including the photos constitutes use of public assets for propaganda purposes. The ministry had removed some photos before the decision, but Solberg ruled that one additional photo must be removed from each publication to ensure the minister is not placed at the center of the event. However, it was determined that there is no blanket ban on publishing the name and image of an elected official in ministry publications. The ministry was ordered to pay the petitioner's expenses in the amount of 2,500 shekels.
