Singer Celine Dion will perform original songs written and composed by Paul McCartney for the animated film "High in the Clouds," as reported by Deadline. The film is based on a children's book written by McCartney with Philip Ardagh, published in 2005. Dion voices Sugartail, the mother of the protagonist—a squirrel named Wirral (voiced by Himesh Patel). The plot focuses on Wirral's struggle against an owl named Gretsch (Hannah Waddingham), who has outlawed music in his town. The voice cast also includes McCartney, Idris Elba, Lionel Richie, Ringo Starr, and Jimmy Fallon. Waddingham, Patel, and McCartney will also perform some of the film's songs. The original score is composed by Michael Giacchino ("Up"), based on themes composed by McCartney. The film is directed by Toby Genkel ("The Amazing Maurice") from a script by Jon Croker ("Paddington 2"). The project is produced by Gaumont in partnership with 88 Pictures and other production companies, including McCartney's MPL Communications. The announcement of the song recordings comes shortly after Dion completed 16 comeback performances in Paris, her first major shows since canceling her world tour in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and her battle with Stiff Person Syndrome. The film has already been sold for distribution in many countries worldwide, including Israel.
