Bereaved parents sue Naftali Bennett for NIS 200,000

Herzl and Mirav Hajaj, the parents of late Deputy Shirel Hajaj, filed a NIS 200,000 defamation lawsuit against former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, alleging he portrayed them as having been paid by Likud to disrupt his speeches at Memorial Day ceremonies.

Herzl and Mirav Hajaj, the parents of late Deputy Shirel Hajaj, filed a NIS 200,000 defamation lawsuit against former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett. The lawsuit was filed following an interview Bennett gave to Channel 13, in which he claimed that the Likud party hired paid activists to disrupt his speeches at Memorial Day ceremonies. The Hajaj couple argues that Bennett's remarks were directly aimed at them, as their protest against him was widely covered and their identity was known. They strongly deny receiving payment from any political entity and emphasize that their protest stemmed from a sense of betrayal over Bennett's promises and their opposition to cooperation with Ra'am. Bennett said in the interview: "One hundred percent. One hundred percent. Likud, here, I'm saying it, please, want to? Sue me." The parents are demanding NIS 200,000 in compensation, removal of the publications, and a public apology.
