Beach conflict in Tel Aviv — what the authorities decided

The Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality announced the suspension of the plan to relocate the gender-segregated beach from the Nordau area to the north of the city, closer to the border with Herzliya. The decision was made after prolonged disputes between religious and secular residents, as well as fruitless negotiations with the Israeli Ministry of Interior. Secular residents of the area opposed the initiative, perceiving it as an attempt by the Ministry of Interior to increase the number of segregated beaches. The municipality explained that the relocation would allow for the creation of a continuous coastal promenade and provide more space for a new beach. According to the authorities, the location near the segregated beach of Herzliya would allow religious families to visit the sea simultaneously. In July, the municipality clarified that having one segregated beach in the city is a legal requirement. However, the parties could not reach an agreement. Now the municipality has confirmed that the advancement of the plan has been suspended, and the segregated beach will remain in its current location in the Nordau area.
