BBC reviewing inclusion of 53 terrorists on list of journalists killed in Gaza during war - report

The BBC is reviewing the inclusion of 53 alleged terrorists on a BBC Arabic list of journalists killed in Gaza, per a Telegraph report. The individuals were claimed by Hamas and other Palestinian terror groups as martyrs. The CPJ removed 12 from its list after finding terror ties, including participation in the October 7 massacre.

The BBC is reviewing the inclusion of 53 alleged terrorists on a list published by BBC Arabic of journalists killed in Gaza during the Israel-Hamas war, according to a Saturday report from The Telegraph. The 53 individuals have been claimed by Hamas and other Palestinian terrorist organizations as martyrs after they were killed. The list, most recently updated in August 2025, consists of over 180 Palestinian journalists, including the 53 alleged terrorists. Ten of the alleged terrorists were described as journalists by both BBC Arabic and English-language BBC, while the other 43 only appeared on the BBC Arabic list. Twelve have been removed from the casualty list of the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) after a review found terror group ties, including participation in the October 7 massacre. Examples include Abdullah Darwish, a cameraman for Al-Aqsa TV, who was removed after photos emerged of him in Hamas uniform and revealed his participation in the October 7 attacks; and Yaqoub Al-Barsh, executive director of Namaa radio, removed after being identified as a Hamas member. An additional 20 had obituaries published by terror groups, and 21 appeared in photos carrying weapons. The report also cites a whistleblower report alleging BBC Arabic minimized Israeli suffering and gave a platform to antisemitic guests.
