He added that the club hopes to complete the project by early 2028, with Messi's tribute taking place at the stadium after its capacity is fully realized. Laporta noted that Messi could have stayed with Barcelona for an additional season, before the Argentine star made a different decision and left the club. Messi is Barcelona's all-time top scorer and most decorated player, having spent the majority of his career wearing the Catalan club's shirt.
