A terrorist attack planned against IDF soldiers in the Old City of Jerusalem was thwarted in a joint operation by the Central Unit of the Coastal District and the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet). During the past month an investigation was conducted in the course of which an 18-year-old suspect, a resident of Umm al-Fahm, was arrested. As the investigation progressed, it emerged that the suspect had sworn allegiance to the terrorist organization "the Islamic State" (ISIS), and during the past year had planned to carry out an attack against IDF soldiers in the area of the Old City. During a raid on his home, findings and digital materials reinforcing the suspicions were seized. Today, upon completion of all investigative actions, an evidentiary infrastructure was formed and a prosecutor's statement was filed against the suspect ahead of an indictment. The police and the Shin Bet will continue to act to thwart terrorist threats.
