Israeli forces arrest journalist Abd Abu Shahada in Jaffa, police refuse to disclose location
Israeli security forces raided the home of journalist Abd Abu Shahada in Jaffa late Tuesday night, arresting him and seizing electronics and books. Police refuse to disclose his whereabouts despite lawyers' requests. One source reports he is a senior figure in the Islamic Association and was arrested on suspicion of contact with a foreign agent.
Last night, Israeli security forces raided the home of colleague Abd Abu Shhadeh in Jaffa and arrested him, taking him to an unknown location. The police refuse to disclose his detention location despite attempts by lawyers to determine his whereabouts. Lawyers Ramzi Aktilat and Afnan Khalifa tried to contact the police throughout the night to locate Abu Shhadeh, but the police denied knowledge of the case and disavowed his arrest. Human rights activists following the case described the arrest as part of a policy of intimidation and terror, amid the escalating racist campaign against Arab citizens following the election results. The legal center 'Adalah' began following the case and taking necessary legal steps to determine Abu Shhadeh's detention location and reveal the circumstances of his arrest. About 15 security personnel, including masked individuals, stormed Abu Shhadeh's home, terrorized his children, and confiscated electronic devices and a number of books. They also refused to disclose the reasons for his arrest or the entity to which they took him. Follow-up continues to reveal his detention location and the circumstances of his arrest.
