Announcement of the Launch of the National Committee for the Defense of the Rights of Prisoners in the Gaza Strip
The Palestinian NGO Network, in partnership with the Bar Association and human rights institutions, announced the launch of the National Committee for the Defense of the Rights of Prisoners in the Gaza Strip, aiming to unify legal and human rights efforts to monitor the conditions of prisoners and those forcibly detained from the Strip. The announcement was made during a press conference in front of the Red Cross headquarters in Gaza.
The Palestinian NGO Network, in partnership with the Bar Association, the Independent Commission for Human Rights, and institutions such as Al-Dameer, Protection, Hisham, and the Palestinian Center for the Defense of Prisoners, announced the launch of the National Committee for the Defense of the Rights of Prisoners in the Gaza Strip. The announcement was made during a press conference held in front of the International Committee of the Red Cross headquarters in Gaza City, attended by representatives of human rights and civil society institutions and families of prisoners. Network Coordinator General Muhammad Salha said the committee aims to unify Palestinian efforts to monitor the conditions of prisoners and those forcibly detained, and to enhance legal, human rights, and media work. Salha explained that families of prisoners have faced difficulties in obtaining information about their loved ones, necessitating unified efforts to collect information and document cases. The committee's tasks will include creating a database, following up on legal files, monitoring families' needs, and bringing the issue to international institutions. Salha called for strengthening humanitarian efforts to access information and urged the United Nations and international human rights institutions to support the prisoners' cause.
