Ancient rituals and the cult of the Sun: a new discovery on Khortytsia (VIDEO)

Archaeologists have discovered a cromlech on Khortytsia Island, estimated to be about five thousand years old. According to scientists, the stone structure, which served a cultic purpose, was used for sacred rituals and observing celestial bodies. The find is planned to be included in the reserve's tourist routes.

An expedition from the monument protection department of the Khortytsia National Reserve discovered a cromlech fifty meters from the Dnipro River bank. The structure is about five thousand years old. Reserve researcher Anatoliy Volkov explained that the stones were carefully processed and fitted together, forming a cohesive architectural composition. According to specialists, such structures performed religious and calendar functions, serving as platforms for sacred rituals and observing the movement of celestial bodies. The discovered object is the eighth fully studied sanctuary of this type on Khortytsia. The reserve's management plans to include the ancient sanctuary in official tourist routes.
