Amid the escalation in Yemen, Syria is preparing to send about 600 special forces fighters to the Saudi-Yemen border in the coming week, according to an AP report. Syrian military advisors have already arrived in Saudi Arabia, but Damascus denied sending forces to Yemen.

Amid the escalation in Yemen against the Houthis, Syria is preparing to send about 600 special forces fighters to the Saudi-Yemen border in the coming week, according to an AP report. According to a Syrian source, an initial force is expected to arrive in Saudi Arabia, and Syrian military advisors have already been sent to the kingdom to assist in training Yemeni forces. A Syrian military delegation conducted a two-week visit to Saudi Arabia, and 36 Syrian officers arrived at a joint command center in Jeddah. However, a Syrian diplomatic source denied that Syrian forces are about to be sent to Yemen, clarifying that the cooperation focuses on training Saudi forces. The move comes amid intensified fighting in Yemen this summer and increased Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, as part of the regional conflict that began in February following US and Israeli strikes on Iran.
