The global standards organization Bluetooth SIG has officially adopted the Bluetooth HDT (High Data Throughput) standard, which boosts wireless data transfer speeds to nearly four times the current standard – from 2 Mbps to 7.5 Mbps. The upgrade enables high-resolution audio streaming without compression, significant power savings, and improved connection stability in interference-heavy environments. Samsung's VP of Development, Junsuk Kim, was quoted saying that the combination of speed, energy efficiency, and stability provides an essential infrastructure for advanced products. At chip company Nordic Semiconductor, they clarified that the upgrade will enable fast synchronization of fitness watches and firmware updates for smart home devices. The first commercial devices supporting the standard are expected to reach the market during 2027.
