Until now, Turkey remained one of the few regional destinations that continued to receive flights from Iran, after countries such as Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iraq, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates canceled flight permits. Iran's Mahan Air stopped its flights to Turkey at the request of Turkish authorities, but flights via Iran Air and smaller companies continued. The American pressure is showing results: US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent noted that Turkey and Oman stopped Mahan Air flights, and the UAE stopped all Iranian flights. The US administration announced severe sanctions on any international company that does business with Iranian airlines after September 23. Iraq stopped Iranian flights at all four airports and is negotiating for humanitarian exemptions. Turkmenistan denied an Iranian aircraft access to its airspace. Iranian companies still operate flights to destinations in the East: China, Russia, Afghanistan, Armenia, Belarus, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Tajikistan. Iran's Supreme National Security Council denied reports of military retaliation but clarified that it has "many non-military options." Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei warned that countries preventing Iranian aircraft from operating will find their airports unable to send flights to Iran.
