After passing the anti-Israeli resolution: the British party is in trouble

The European Green Party distances itself from the decision of the Green Party of England and Wales to define Zionism as racism. The European leadership clarified that the decision contradicts their position, emphasized support for the right to self-determination for both peoples, and demanded clarifications from the British party leadership. The decision was passed by a vote of 1,022 to 813 at the party conference in Brighton.

The European Green Party, the umbrella organization for green parties across Europe, has publicly opposed the resolution adopted by the Green Party of England and Wales, titled 'Zionism is Racism'. In an official statement, the European leadership clarified that the resolution 'contradicts the agreed positions of the European Green Party and its member parties', and that the organization 'unequivocally distances itself from it'. The resolution was passed at the party conference in Brighton by a vote of 1,022 members to 813. The resolution defined Zionism as an 'ethno-nationalist political project' and stated that opposition to Zionism is not antisemitism. It included calls to strengthen the Palestinian struggle, support for boycott, divestment and sanctions, an arms embargo on Israel, and support for a single Palestinian state. Party chair Zack Polanski did not participate in the vote, and MP Carla Denyer warned of damage to the party's position. The European leadership is now demanding clarifications from the British party regarding its official policy, especially on self-determination for Israelis and Jews and the protection of Jews. Concurrently, the European leadership strongly condemned 'the genocide against the Palestinians' by the Israeli government, while emphasizing that the fight against antisemitism is an integral part of their position.
