After more than 20 years: Phil Collins and Paul McCartney reconciled
Phil Collins revealed in an interview that he reconciled with Paul McCartney after a feud lasting more than 20 years. The two made amends in a phone call initiated by McCartney, during which Collins apologized for things he had written against him in the past.
British musician Phil Collins revealed last night (Saturday) in an interview on Piers Morgan's show that he reconciled with Sir Paul McCartney, thus ending a publicized feud between the two that lasted more than 20 years. According to Collins, the two made amends in a phone call initiated by McCartney several months ago, during which Collins even apologized for things he had written against McCartney in the past. "I told him I was sorry and that I wish I hadn't said those things," Collins shared. The affair began in 2002, during the Queen's Golden Jubilee concert at Buckingham Palace, where Collins served as the backing drummer for most of the participating artists. Collins approached McCartney asking him to sign a rare edition of a memoir about the Beatles. According to Collins, McCartney's response, calling him "our little Phil," was perceived by him as condescending and insulting. The tension between the two escalated in 2016, when Collins described the incident in his memoir. In response to the publication, McCartney sent Collins an email in which he described his words as "sanctimonious." Collins chose not to reply to the message at the time. According to Collins, the renewed rapprochement began several months ago, when McCartney contacted him by phone. The approach was made in the context of Collins' request to various artists for donations of items for an auction for the King's Trust, scheduled for next month. During their conversation, the two raised the issue of the grievances between them. Collins stated in the interview that he apologized to McCartney for the things he had written, and added that the two made amends. During the interview, Collins also addressed personal issues, including his past struggle with alcohol addiction and his health condition, which led to his hospitalization in Switzerland. Collins noted the impact of these events on his family and his relationship with his children.
