After Hamas flags flew in New York - Adams gets into trouble with another community

New York City Mayor Eric Adams is facing backlash from the Italian community after refusing to attend Columbus Day celebrations. Organizers of the Brooklyn parade were notified of the invitation's rejection, while in Queens their request was completely ignored. This comes amid criticism of his remarks against Israel on the anniversary of the October 7 massacre and confrontations with immigration authorities.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams is facing backlash from the Italian community after refusing to attend Columbus Day celebrations. Organizers of the annual parade on 18th Avenue in the Bensonhurst neighborhood of Brooklyn reported that the mayor's office confirmed the rejection of the invitation, which had been sent weeks in advance. In Queens, the situation was even more severe, where parade organizers in the Astoria neighborhood received no response at all, as the mayor simply chose to completely ignore their request. According to estimates, Adams will also be absent from the main parade on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, despite reconciliation efforts by the Columbus Citizens Foundation. Relations with the Italian community have seen many ups and downs: during the mayoral campaign, a photo from 2020 resurfaced showing Adams flipping the middle finger at a statue of Christopher Columbus in Queens. Amid the foreign policy disputes, Adams continues to stir controversy on the local stage as well. Last week, he intervened in a violent incident in the Bronx, where ICE agents attempted to arrest an illegal immigrant with a lengthy criminal record, linked to a violent street gang.
