The decision comes after the Netherlands boycotted the last Eurovision competition (2026) due to Israel's participation. The announcement comes amid the announcement last week by Ireland's public broadcaster RTE that Ireland does not intend to participate in the 2027 competition for the same reason, and will not even broadcast it. In RTE's statement, it said that their position has not changed, and that Ireland's participation cannot be justified in light of the loss of life in Gaza and the humanitarian crisis there. Ireland was one of five countries that boycotted this year's competition, along with Spain, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Iceland. Ireland first participated in Eurovision in 1965 and has won it seven times, the highest number of wins in the competition.
