Muhammad al-Ras (40), a father of five and a sick elderly mother, was injured by shrapnel during an Israeli targeting of the Hamama school area in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of Gaza on August 27, 2024. The injury led to the amputation of the toes on his left foot. He was treated at the Arab Baptist Hospital and then discharged to continue treatment at home due to overcrowding. His five children now assist him in his movements and in fetching water and food from the soup kitchen, a reversal of roles. He received a prosthetic limb from one organization but was unable to use it. He dreams of traveling to complete treatment, undergo cosmetic surgery, and get a suitable prosthetic limb to restore at least a minimal ability to rely on himself and care for his family. Under the weight of the siege, obtaining a treatment opportunity seems like a dream for about 20,000 patients and wounded in Gaza.
