Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Energy Minister Eli Cohen visited the Leviathan gas platform today. Netanyahu stated that the natural gas sector brings 400 billion shekels into state coffers, and that electricity prices in Israel are more than 20% lower than in the European Union. The Prime Minister's Office noted that about 32 billion shekels from gas have been transferred to state coffers so far, and cumulative revenues are expected to exceed 350 billion shekels. It was also reported that gas use saves thousands of shekels per family annually. A notable figure is the gas agreement with Egypt worth about 112 billion shekels, of which about 58 billion are expected to reach the public coffers. The visit also included a security briefing from the commander of the Haifa naval base on platform defense, against the backdrop of its temporary closure at the start of the war with Iran in June 2025.
