The Nancy Grand and Scott Grand z"l family is donating $25 million to establish a research center for healthy aging at the Technion. The center, founded in 2024 by Prof. Shai Shen-Orr from the Faculty of Medicine, will integrate researchers from medicine, engineering, and data science to advance solutions for healthy aging. The donation will fund a lifelong follow-up study (Lifespan Cohort) involving 1,000 older adults, as well as a new graduate studies program. Nancy Grand said: "You can live to 95, but if the brain starts to deteriorate in your 70s—what's the point?" Prof. Shen-Orr noted that factors from DNA to environment affect aging. Stephen Grand was a Jewish American real estate magnate who contributed greatly to Israeli academia. Technion President Prof. Uri Sivan said the donation is significant for aging research and Israel's role in innovation.
